Friday October 25th seniors involved in band, cheer, color guard, cross-country, dance and football were recognized.  Below is a brief bio of each senior.  We greatly appreciate the hard work, dedication and commitment our seniors (& parents) gave to each program!  Go Bluejays!

Cross Country

Wyatt Bailey – Parents are Dwayne & Kimberly Bailey.  Large group speech, individual speech, NHS, 4-year member of Select Choir, Band, Art including Art Senior Seminar, FFA where he is a district officer, Cross-Country, Golf, Wrestling, Spring Musical, Variety Show, Student Council, 4-H, and Polk County 4-H Council.  Tenor section leader award, academic letter recipient, Winner of the Congressional Art competition, various awards at RRC Art Show, member of the 2016 OPUS honor choir, member of the 2017 All-State Chorus, member of the 2017 Iowa State Honor Choir, All-State large group speech banner winner, non-performing All-State speech recipient, Polk County Fair King, and Homecoming King.  After graduation he plans to attend ISU and major in Agronomy.  “Don’t let school get in the way of your education”

Emily Erhardt – Parents are Terry Swaim and Jamie Erhardt.  While in high school she has been involved in volleyball, cross country, track and field, and FFA.  She has lettered in cross country for 3 years, lettered in track for 3 years, all conference in cross country, state qualifier in track.  After graduation she plans to attend college to run cross country and track and major in pre-dentistry.  “I want to thank my mom for always being there for me and my dad for pushing me to do the best I can be. I’m going to miss your constant encouragement and support”

Neal Larsen – Parents are Craig and Jackie Larsen.  While in high school he has been involved in cross country, wrestling and rugby.  He was a 2019 state wrestling qualifier.  After graduation he plans to join a power-line man apprenticeship.  “Thanks mom, dad, and coaches for all your support in high school!  Go Jays!”

Lydia McCleary – See Marching Band

Jackson McGovern – Parents are Joe and Molly McGovern.  While in high school he has been involved in cross country, track, speech, and bowling.  He was a cross country state qualifier, 3 time all conference for cross country, and 3 time state participant for speech.  After graduation he plans to attend ISU.  “I would like to thank my family for supporting me and encouraging me in everything I do. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. I am also thankful for all my coaches, who push me to be my best.”

Campbell Ralph – Parent is Cassandra Murra.   While in high school he has been involved in cross country, track, art, and the school play.  He has been student of the month, Varsity for cross country and track all four years.  After graduation he is considering studying studio art and creative writing while running at a university.  “I’d like to thank my mother for always helping me.”

Seth VanBaale – Parents are Kali and Troy VanBaale.  He has been involved in track and field, cross country, bowling, and NHS.  He has lettered in cross country 4 years and state qualifier 2 years, team all-conference 3 years, lettered in track and field 3 years, 2x state qualifier, 800 m school record holder.  After graduation he plans to go to ISU to study mechanical engineering.  “I want to thank my coaches who have supported me for the past four years in all my sporting events. I wouldn’t have achieved any of my goals without the constant dedication from them. I owe a great deal to my mom and dad for everything they have done for me over the years, I love my mom the most because she is a saint.

 

Marching Band/Color Guard

Abby Bruce, Kiana Drabek, and Johnny Foss – See Cheer

Cara Briley – Parents are Chad and Michelle Briley.  While in high school she has been involved in color guard, drama, speech, choir, and FFA.  After graduation she plans to attend ISU to be a wildlife veterinarian.  “I couldn’t be here without my parents, they raised me to who I am today and I’m proud of being who I am and that’s being a Briley. I also wouldn’t be where I am without my sister Mercedes, who showed me the excitement of color guard and marching band. I love color guard with a passion and its apart of my identity. My greatest gratitude to my coach and band instructor Mr. Wipperman and Mindy Van Gundy, without these people I wouldn’t have pushed myself so far to where I am now. I also have to thank my color guard team and marching band itself, without them I wouldn’t be as successful as I am now. Thank you team, you’re true stars to me and you guys mean so much to me.”

Justin Burgett – Parents are Brian Burgett and Amy Kline.  While in high school he has been involved in band, art, speech, play, musical, DECA, and track.  He has lettered in band and art, went to state speech, won a state fair painting competition, qualified for DECA nationals, received academic letters and was on honor roll.  After graduation, he plans on attending ISU to dual major in environmental science and mechanical engineering.  “Thank you to everyone in my life, close or not. You have all shaped who I am whether you meant to or not, and I wouldn’t want anything more.”

Aidan Freese – Parents are Chris and Donia Freese.  While in high school he has been involved in marching band, concert band, and jazz band.  He has lettered in band and academics.  After graduation he plans on going to college to major in actuarial science.

Kwaku Gyan – Host parents are Kristin and Todd Swift.  While in high school he has been involved in marching band and fall play.  After high school he plans on majoring in health science.  “A dream is not what you see when you sleep but that which keeps you awake while others sleep.”

Sawyer Hildreth – Parents are Charles and Linda Hildreth.  While in high school he has been involved in NHS, individual and group Speech, Fall play, Spring musical, Jazz choir, Select choir, and Band.  He has lettered in band and choir.  After graduation he plans to go to ISU or Central and major in religious studies with theater and Spanish as minors.  “I would like to thank all my teachers for helping me become the best student and person I can be, and I would like to thank my mother, father, and sister for always supporting me.” 

Sarah Hintz – Parents are Melissa and Jerad Hintz.  While in high school she has been involved in marching and concert band, select choir, individual and large group speech, fall play, spring musical, and jazz choir.  She has received an excellence in music award, was a soprano and alto section leader, division 1 rating in large group and individual speech, and two large group all-state performances.  After high school she plans to attend BYU-Idaho majoring in music education.  “If you follow your dreams, you are capable of anything.”

Mizuaki Ishiwata – Host parents are Rebecca Thrap.  He has been involved in marching band in high school.  After graduation he plans to attend a University.

Lauren Lorentzen – Parents are Robert and Rachelle Lorentzen.  While in high school she has been involved in band, select choir, musical, play, speech, and NHS.  She has received the President’s volunteer service award, BFHS academic excellence award and lettered in band and choir.  After graduation she plans to attend UNI for elementary education.  “Thank you to my parents and directors for pushing me to be the best I can be.”

May Omri – Host parents are Karen and Micheal Keeran.  While in high school she is involved in marching band.  After graduation she plans to study psychology at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.  “I would like to thank my host parents for being the reason I am here”

Haleigh Penton – Parents are Nicole and John Cory, and Brett and Leah Penton.  While in high school she is involved in marching band and choir.  She received section leader award in choir, and captain of the color guard team for two years.  After graduation she plans to get a degree in human services, and work for the DHS or in the social work field.  “Thank you to my parents, for getting me through the rough times and making me who I am. And to Mr. Wipperman and Mindy Van Gundy for being my biggest inspiration throughout high school and teaching me things I will hold on to throughout my entire life.”

Camron Thrap – Parents are Joshua and Rebecca Thrap.  While in school he has been involved in marching band, fall play, and musical.  After high school he plans on learning more about the performing arts and travel the world.  “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Jayce Young – Parents are Dustin Young and Jamie Thomas.  While in high school he has been involved in drumline, band, and golf.  He has lettered in band.  After graduation, he plans to attend college and study aerospace engineering.  “Thank you to my parents and Mr. Wipperman for supporting me even though it’s not always easy.”

Lydia McCleary * Marching Band & Cross Country* – Parents are Tom and Mary Jo McCleary.  She has been involved in band, select choir, cross country, volleyball, jazz choir, jazz band, the musical, speech, and NHS.  Her accomplishments include singing in the Central College honor choir, the RRC Honor Choir for three years, being a three year letter winner in band, choir, and academics, a two time division one rating recipient at the state level for individual speech, and being named to the DMACC President’s List for the 2019 Spring Semester.  After graduation she plans to attend ISU to major in software engineering.  “I would like to thank my family, friends, and teachers who have guided me throughout these past four years. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the endless support of the great people around me.”

Football Cheer

Abby Bruce – Parents are Mark and Angela Bruce.  While in high school she has been a cheerleader for football, basketball, and wrestling.  She has been involved in bowling, soccer, NHS, and student council.  After graduation she plans to attend DMACC then ISU for nursing.  “I want to thank my parents, teachers, coaches, and friends for always pushing me to be my best.

Kiana Drabek – Parents are Sheree and Rick Drabek.  She has been involved in cheerleading, track, marching band, concert band, concert choir, and FCA.  She will be doing honor squad in November for cheer, volunteer at Mercy Hospital, is in Central College Honor Choirs, and RRC Honor Choir.  After graduation she plans to pursue a career in pediatric nursing with an academic focus in genetics.  “I would like to thank my parents, family, teachers, coaches, and friends for always pushing me to be my best self.  I would tell underclassmen to not to take this time for granted. High school flies by, always be driven, and motivated even when you feel like quitting, give it your all. Thank you BF and Go Jays!”

Johnny Foss – Godparents Jane Street and Carl Macht.  While in high school he has been involved in varsity football cheer, FFA, varsity basketball cheer, marching band, concert band, select choir, concert choir, and track.  He has been on honor roll.  He plans on going to DMACC and then transferring to UNI. “Stop doubting yourself, work hard and make it happen.”

 

Dance

Sierra Boge-Kirby –  Parents are Cindy and Dale Kirby.  While in high school she participated in dance team for 4 years and on the Kasey Leigh dance studio competition team.  After high school she plans to Aveda Institute and National Laser Institute in Arizona to become a laser technician and esthetician.  “I want to thank my friends, family, dance coaches and teachers for helping me become the person I am today and helping me through this journey.”

 

Football

Nick Chalfant – Parents are Rick and Ann Chalfant.  While in high school he is involved in football for 4 years and wrestling for 2 years.  He has lettered in football for 3 years.  After graduation he plans to pursue an apprenticeship in building trades.  “I want to thank my coaches for the time and effort they have put in over the years to help me get better. I also want to thank my parents for continuing to support me at any time throughout high school.”

Josh Doty – Parents are Wendi and Matt Kelley and Dave and Michelle Doty.  While in high school he has been involved in rugby, football, wrestling, track, select choir and was junior class officer.  He was a men’s section leader in choir and state runner up for rugby.  After graduation he is planning on attending college for history education and rugby.  “When I eat it’s the food that is scared.” – Ron Swanson

Cody Hall – Parents are Rob and Jayce Hall.  While in high school he is involved in football, wrestling, rugby, youth group, soccer, baseball, weightlifting, and volunteer work.  He has been in National Honor Society, the all-state rugby team, and 1000 lbs Club.  After graduation he plans to major in engineering or business at a 4 year university.  “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”

Aiden Lewis – Parent are Lesa Lewis and Brad Lewis.  While in high school he is involved in football, wrestling, rugby, soccer, and student council.  He is involved in NHS, district qualifier, 3 letter winner in football and rugby, 4 year letter winner in wrestling, academic all-conference, and my mom’s favorite kid.  After graduation he plans to go to ISU to become an engineer and play rugby, make a few million dollars, retire young.  “If they don’t score we win” – Bradley Eggers

Kaeden Lozano – Parents are Jason and Nichole Lozano.  While in high school he has been involved in football, wrestling, track, rugby, baseball, NHS, and mentoring.  He has been a district qualifier in wrestling, wrestling captain, football captain, football all district honorable mention, 2nd team all-district, academic all-conference, state qualifier in long jump for track, and state runner up for rugby.

Kyle Pitzen – Grandparents Bruce and Pat Fick.  While in high school he has been involved in wrestling, football, and baseball.  He has lettered in wrestling 3 years and placed 1st in Ken Estling Dual and 3rd place in sectional.  After graduation he plans on being an apprentice for plumbers and steamfitters union. “You get to decide the legacy that you leave”.

Kaleb Scott – Parents are Marcia Schoen and Ron Proctor.  While in high school he has been involved in football, basketball, and track.  He has lettered in football and track, received all-conference academic and has been on Honor Roll.  After graduation he plans to major in marketing.  “Thank you for support on Friday nights from my coaches, family, and friends. GO JAYS!

Nolan Snyder – Parent is Christine Morrison.  While in school he participated in football, basketball, and track.  After high school he plans to go into the military and then DMACC.  “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X

Cael Sykes – Parents are Gina and Brian Sykes.  While in high school he participated in football, basketball, soccer, and rugby.  After high school he plans to attend DMACC or Iowa State.  “Success isn’t owned. It’s leased. And rent is due every day.”

Aiden Turner – Parents are Sara Turner and Aaron Turner.  While in high school he participated in football, track, basketball, and speech.  He was 2nd team all-district offensive line junior year.  After graduation he plans to go to ISU and major in accounting with a minor in business.  “Thank you to my parents and everyone who has supported me through the years.”

Andrew Ulmer – Parents are April and Chris Ulmer.  While in high school he has been involved in football, track, bowling, and rugby.  He has lettered in track and football.  After graduation he plans to take classes for diesel mechanics.  “I would like to thank my parents and all the teachers who have helped me throughout my 4 years.”
